Dear readers, it is a new year but in the north it is not a time of new beginnings quite yet. Hibernation is still very much the only thing on our minds. Luckily the snowdrops are starting to bloom. The first day of spring was apparently on the first of February and we are in the time of Imbolc, rebirth and reawakening. Unfortunately I have not been able to take part in any of this because I have been continuously ill throughout January. I am writing this while recovering from Bronchitis, having spent the last week in isolation deep in a fevered mucus coffin in my bedroom where my mind went untethered to uncomfortable places. No one should be sick and alone, especially when trying to fight with their doctors for decent treatment. I suggest reading my piece ‘Knocker-Upper’. I am hopefully at the end of it and won’t got straight into another forced convalescence, my brain and my heart can’t take it.
As I am starting to find my voice again, literally in my case, I felt up to sending out a small signal to you all. I hope this year will bring more adventures along the creative writing path. As always I am so thankful for everyone who supports this page. If you can please consider becoming a paid subscriber and any share of my work could lead to me infiltrating another poor suckers brain (just kidding I love you guys). A new piece is on its way but to start the year off here is my first attempt at a poem in Afrikaans for paid subscribers.
Speak soon friends.
